Single-ended signals are problematic at high speeds. This is related to the signal swing, limited noise margins, dv/dt, EMI and power. To correct a number of these, differential signals (such as CML or LVDS) are used for high-speed interfaces. The small signal addresses speed, and power. Differential signaling also addresses noise margins and EMI concerns. However, Loss is still a concern for both signaling technologies. Loss is a function of the channel, and also the data pattern and data rate. High frequency components tend to get more effected than low frequency components. To combat this issues, signal conditioning is used. This presentation focuses on six applications where signal conditioning provides a major benefit to the interface solution.
