In this example, assume that in an HDMI application the cable is too short, or the use a smaller more flexible cable is desired. One practical solution is to use an active cable equalizer to extend the length of the link and to recover the eye pattern. A few key attributes of the HDMI standard are noted in this slide. Most commonly these cables are in the 24 to 28 AWG range and are less than 5 meters in length. A 1080p application uses a pixel clock of about 150 MHz (depending on blanking times, e.g. 165MHz) and runs each of the three data lines (Red / Green / Blue) at 1.5 Gbps for a total throughput of 4.5 Gbps.
