The 298D from Vishay, allows clean uniform solder fillets to form as a result of the L-shape terminations, as opposed to the face-down terminations of competitors. In addition, Vishay’s L-Shaped termination allows visual inspection (or automated optical inspection) of the solder fillet in the end user’s production. This allows for tighter outgoing inspection. Shown here is the unevenness of how the competitors capacitor is mounted. The L-termination mitigates the possibility of tomb stoning issues arising.
