why sic over si
Silicon (Si) devices reach their normal operational temperature limits at 150°C and have a switching limit of a few hundred kHz. They are sensitive to harsh environments with intense radiation and thermal environments. Silicon Carbide (SiC) devices have the potential to operate at temperatures up to 300°C and switching frequencies in the >1 MHz range. The wider band gap and increased thermal conductivity allow for high operating frequencies, steady operation under larger electric fields and thermal stability.
