Shown here is a comparison between the non-L version and the L version of the 8V97053. In this example, the devices are supplied directly with a DC-DC switching regulator (used was the Texas Instrument TPS54519 that offers <30 mpp output voltage ripple for this measurement). The L version shows a much better immunity to power supply noise. For reference, the phase noise of the device when supplied by a good LDO is also provided in the table on the right. When supplied with a good LDO though, the non-L version may offer up to 1 dB better phase noise compared to the L version.
