The two major types of electrolytics are tantalums and aluminums. Electrolytic capacitors are characterized by having high capacitance value (high volumetric efficiency) and relatively small sizes. Among electrolytics, tantalums have the highest volumetric efficiency, superior temperature stability and a decreasing failure rate over time (no wear-out mechanism).
