There are two ways in which these DSPs are revolutionizing the industry. The first is by making applications smarter, taking applications that used to be in the MCU territory where power and price are concerned and adding enhanced capabilities using this DSP at no additional cost. Until recently, the only way to control appliances was to manually switch them on or off. Now, there are remote controls to wirelessly transmit the commands. The C553x DSPs can allow the user to simply talk to the portable remote control to open a garage door, start an appliance or control almost anything desired. Another example is that the C553x DSPs can also enable more processing at the sensor side and reduce the transmission bandwidth, plus it can be used to add real time diagnostics to the sensor space. There is also a lot of exciting activity in the education industry to make teaching and learning tools more interactive. Educators and presenters want more effective tools to engage and captivate their audience, and students want an easier but more comprehensive user experience while learning as well as revising. The C553x DSPs can help make white boards and digital pens more attractive and enable more connectivity. The second way this generation will assist customers is by helping them decrease their BOM cost and make their product accessible to more consumers. Shown in the lower portion of this slide are some applications which take advantage of this. First is the fingerprint biometrics space which includes door locks, and USB secure keys. Also there is the portable medical equipment market, which includes portable ECGs, pulse oximeters, and lastly there is the audio and voice space which includes voice recorders, headsets, and speakers.
