MSP430x2xx/4xx and Wireless Overview Slide 3

Welcome to the Texas Instruments (TI) MSP430x2xx/4xx and Wireless Overview training module. This module will provide a general overview of the MSP430x2xx/4xx microcontroller families and the wireless options available for these families. Additionally, a brief overview of the MSP430 family along with some associated design resources will be presented. The features of the F2xx family reduce overall system cost and improve reliability. The improved digitally controlled oscillator (DCO) has greater stability over temperature and voltage allowing, in most applications, the elimination of an external crystal. Also, all port pins now have programmable pull-up/pull-down resistors further eliminating more external components. Additionally, these devices can be hack proof since the improved bootstrap loader includes the option of invalid passwords erasing the device. The F2xx family of devices offers many improvements, but shares the same CPU and instruction set as all MSP430’s resulting in the ability to completely reuse existing code. Additionally, F2xx derivatives are offered with extended 105°C temperature capability. However, automotive temperature and qualification will not be offered.
