MSP430x2xx/4xx and Wireless Overview Slide 13

Developing a working RF hardware solution is only the first part of the challenge. Pairing the wireless transceiver with an off-chip MCU allows the radio to go to sleep when not in use while the integration of the CC2500 and the MSP430 can be done using a simple HAL which removes the complication of dealing with the interface between the two devices. A simple RF link may be established providing a framework to develop a feature rich protocol tailored to the application. Additionally, the ultra low power MCU reduces the overall power consumption by handling all of the network processing and packet handling. SimpliciTI, TI’s proprietary low power RF network stack, includes a built in HAL and adds a simple network protocol to establish robust networks. Optimized for low power, low cost devices, SimpliciTI requires as little as 4KB of flash and only consumes ~1K of RAM. It supports point-to-point or point-to-multipoint (star) communication with the option of using range extenders to increase the reach of the network. Using the very concise SimpliciTI API, engineers need not worry about the RF stack getting in the way of completing their application and will greatly reduce overall time to market.
