Noise is measured by placing a fan in the center of an anechoic chamber with a microphone 1 m from the intake of the fan for DC axial fans, and with a microphone 1 m from the side case of AC axial fans. The anechoic chamber reduces any foreign noise that might be occurring in order to get the best reading on the noise being created by the fan.
