Another application for CCR is to control current through a switch. Mechanical switches require a minimum current to prevent oxidization, this is a major problem in automobiles where there are often up to 50 mechanical switches that have to operate in hot and humid conditions. Modern processors only sense a voltage to determine if a switch is open or closed. Extremely low currents are drawn. A circuit has to be provided to ensure a minimum current is maintained. The CCR can provide a controlled current over a wide range of supply voltages.
