Improvement in NFC performance is easily obtained by boosting the handset battery voltage. There are three benefits. First, consistent RF signal strength over the range of battery voltage, typically 4.2 V, when charging down to about 2.3 V when depleted. Second, operation from a boosted battery voltage provides a stronger RF signal. Finally, an improved user experience and trust in the NFC system for secure transactions. The DC to DC Boost Converter, PCA9410 for 5.0 V or PCA9411 for 5.25 V, requires only three external components; an inductor and two capacitors.
