A larger coil antenna benefits the NFC signal strength. It is usually limited by physical space within the handset, moreso when the handset size is reduced and a smaller antenna is necessary. The DC to DC boost converter advantage may be used to compensate for a smaller antenna, resulting in a system with performance on par with a system that does not include a DC to DC boost converter, has a direct battery connection, and uses a large antenna.
