Hybrid supercapacitors have approximately eight times the energy density and 10% of the leakage current. This is great when paired with a battery, as there is very little drain of the battery to keep the hybrid supercapacitor charged. The combination of low leakage current and higher energy also means low discharge, so the voltage is maintained even with long periods without charge. Traditional supercapacitor ESR is approximately 5% of the hybrid supercapacitor, giving twenty-times the power and much lower heating in constant current applications. This means longer cycle life.
