Key differences between batteries, supercapacitors, and hybrids are shown in the green boxes. Supercapacitors have a significantly longer cycle life than li-ion and lead-acid batteries with discharge times of only a few seconds, compared to hours in various battery types. However, over the life of the product, the total energy charged and discharged is much more in supercapacitors. This makes them ideal for delivering short-duration high-density power. Supercapacitors also perform reliably over a much wider operating temperature range on both the high and low ends.
