Different types of control application place different requirements on the controlling DAC. Take for instance an open loop application in which the DAC drives a load such as a valve or an actuator. In this application, absolute accuracy, because of the lack of feedback, is critical for keeping the DAC output as close a fit as possible to the ideal DAC transfer function. Therefore, selecting a “truly” accurate DAC is critical in an open-loop system.
