Resolution-Slide2

First, it is important to understand that the analog output of a DAC can only exist at discrete levels. Resolution defines the number of these discrete levels or steps the DAC output is capable of. Essentially, it is the amount by which the output of a DAC can be resolved or tuned. DNL is the key specification to look at when evaluating resolution. Accuracy represents the quality or closeness of fit of the output to the ideal programmed output. It refers to the difference in the measured output value and the expected value based on a programmed code. INL is the key specification regarding accuracy.
