Let’s talk about the input/output voltage ranges a little bit. As you can see in this schematic diagram, the input and output voltage range of the LMH6723 are limited, as are many high-performance Op Amps. To be active, the input common mode voltage range should be one volt away from either supply. For the output, this range is 1.3 volts from either rail. There are Op Amps available which would extend the input range to about say 300 milli-volts beyond either rail on the input side and allow the output swings to within tens of milli-volts of either rail on the output. These devices are called rail-to-rail input/output devices. These RRIO, or rail-to-rail input/output Op Amps, are easier to use since they have less restrictions on their applications. However, these devices usually have inferior other performance specifications and are usually more expensive. There are precautions necessary in order to make sure that while our amplifier performs the required task of gain of +2, the input and output restrictions above are not violated.
