Small Motor Drivers Slide 37

If the rotation needs to be reversed, then a provision must be made to reverse the direction of current flow in the motor. For cordless power tools this is typically done with a mechanical switch, for most other applications an H-bridge is typically used to drive the motor. For high power applications, gate driver ICs like the L6385 or L6386 that we have already seen, may be used to drive the gates of discrete Power MOS or IGBTs.
