The L6566 provides an incredibly flexible and powerful control solution for low to medium power flyback solutions, typically 10 W to 100 W. Shown here are the A and B options. L6566A is designed to be paired with one of ST’s transition mode power factor controllers. Specifically, it has a dedicated pin that will interface with the PFC to disable the PFC at light load and improve efficiency, and to also disable the L6566A when a fault condition is detected by the PFC controller. The L6566B is designed as a stand-alone chip for single stage flyback power supplies. 75 W is typically the threshold of requirement for operation with a PFC. Common end applications include LCD TVs, monitors, printers, and power adapters.
