ROHM Semiconductor’s LTR series of resistors all have wide terminals. The picture here shows the difference between a standard resistor terminal compared with a wide terminal resistor. The LTR resistor’s wider terminal increases reliability during temperature cycling and also allows for higher rated power when compared to a standard resistor of the same size. The bottom right table shows a comparison of rated power of a standard MCR series resistor Vs. an LTR series resistor. Note for a 1206 package the rated power of an LTR resistor is 0.5W which is twice the rated power of a standard MCR resistor at 0.25W. In the next slides, this module will discuss junction cracking caused by thermal stress and how LTR resistors improves reliability.
