Safety Functions-IEC

Electrical home appliances are now required to prevent accidents caused by malfunctioning components in a product by complying with the IEC60730-1 or IEC60335-1 standards. In order to comply with those standards, the microcontroller used in those designs must be able to detect and react to the failures within various product and within the microcontroller itself. Designed into the ML62Q1xxx series of devices are safety functions that allow the end product to meet all of the requirements of the IEC standards. The clock monitor, UARTs, SIO, I2C tests, watch dog timer tests, GPIO tests, and ADC tests can be performed under software control. The internal RAM and Flash memories are checked for parity and CRC calculation. These checks are done automatically by built-in hardware which operates in the background and does not impact normal access to those memories unless an error is detected. The memory guard function disables unexpected writes to specific special function registers and user-defined sections of RAM.
