A look into the lighting market in 2010 reveals that 63% of the lights in use are still fluorescents. The 37% left is divided into replacements at 31%, retrofits at 5%, and new installations at 1%. Just looking at this chart shows the huge market that still is available for replacements and SSL. The popularity of the SLL as a replacement is increasing because of: energy savings, higher reliability, and lower maintenance. LEDs are also used in new installations due to flexibility and color mixing, ease of control (dimming), and safety (low voltage and low temperature operation).
