VIP Interface Modules Slide 5

A very broad application when it comes to VIP interface modules is anywhere high-density connections are needed. While this seems simple enough, it is absolutely true. As a result, motion controllers with D-Sub and HD D-Sub headers offer great potential to save time and space. There are also some more focused opportunities to take advantage of VARIOFACE Professional products like using VIP cables and modules within systems cabling solutions. Phoenix Contact uses a three component approach in systems cabling; plug adapter, a cable, and a field termination assembly. The most pivotal part of the solution is the plug adapter. This adapter plugs directly into an I/O card. The pin traces on the PCB route the signals from the I/O card in such a manner that allows signal transfer to the field. Consequently, there are different plug adapters for different I/O cards. So be sure to know what I/O card is in use. After the adapter is in place, all is needed is a ribbon cable and an interface module with the appropriate cable header. Using this systems cabling approach will provide a number of advantages including faster installation times, reduced labor costs, elimination of wiring errors, and reduced panel testing after the assembly is completed. Another great opportunity is using Phoenix Contact’s power supplies along with the VIP power distribution modules. With Phoenix Contact having such a broad line of DIN-Rail mounted power supplies, power distribution modules are a perfect compliment for field wiring. When connecting multiple loads, a power distribution module is the perfect fit. Using a PDM will eliminate bridging needed when using multiple terminal blocks while taking up less space on the DIN-Rail.
