As digital signals change "1" and "0" complicatedly, it is impossible to evaluate the quality of the waveform from a single frequency signal. For that reason, the engineer transmits signals of multiple patterns, evaluates each waveform by cutting out each received signal bit by bit and superimposing it. Since the waveform becomes shaped like an eye, it is named the "eye pattern". If the eyes are open as shown in the upper right figure, the transmission characteristics are good, and if the eyes are closed as shown in the lower right figure, it can be judged that the transmission characteristics are bad. This signal quality is greatly related to the stability of the insertion loss in the characteristics of the relay.
