MAX30001-Slide3

The MAX30001 is a single analog front end IC that has all of the necessary functions such as ECG waveforms, heart rate detection (using R to R), pacemaker edge detection, and a single bioimpedance channel capable of measuring respiration. Shown on the right side of this slide is the block diagram of the sensor. There are three independent channels that are within this device. One channel is for biopotential measurements, one for bioimpedeance measurements, and the last for pacemaker detection. The biopotential and bioimpedance channels have ESD protection, EMI filtering, internal lead biasing, DC leads-off protection, low power leads-on detection during standby, and calibration capability for built-in self test. The fourth function, heart rate, is measured by counting the peaks from the R phase of the QRS waveform, also known from countless TV shows as a “sinus rhythm”. This measurement is known as R-to-R. The MAX30001 offers a range of benefits like the very lowest power and one of the smallest sizes in the market. The product’s ECG mode meets the clinical specification, IEC60601-2-47, while measuring bioimpedance. All of this performance comes with very, very low currents, about 180µA for the biopotential channel measuring ECG and heart rate while 257µA is required for ECG, heart rate, pace, and bioimpedance. Furthermore, the device is packaged in a very small 30-bump WLP package to meet space constraints. An EV kit is also available for product evaluation.
