Electroswitch rotary switches are available with either non-shorting or shorting contacts. In a non-shorting, or break before make switch, the moving contact will break connection with the previous output terminal before making contact with the next output terminal. The moving contact has a narrower cut to achieve this. Non-shorting are the most common contact type requested. In a shorting, or make before break switch, the moving contact will make connection with the next output terminals before breaking with the previous output terminal. The moving contact will have a wider cut to achieve this. This may be required in attenuator type applications.
