The design problems engineers face are in 4 areas. First, Bluetooth qualification and certification require time and money; it could cost up to $200,000 to get everything done to ship a qualified wireless product. The second problem is customers who buy modules do not get support for all areas from one source. They need to go to silicon suppliers for silicon, software, and protocol support, and they need to go module suppliers for hardware and certification support. In most cases, small customers find it very hard to get support from silicon suppliers. The third major problem is firmware development for Bluetooth Smart ready solutions. The firmware is complicated, even for module customers. Firmware development could become a nightmare if they had to read a 1,000 page protocol stack, or if they have to understand 100s of APIs. Another important fact engineers face is due to changing industrial design in today's world. Most of these industrial designs are getting smaller and need a very small PCB area to really create a very small design for the end product.
