AMT10 and AMT11 Encoders Slide 8

Quadrature decoding is a means of increasing the accuracy of the encoder by counting every state change from both channels in one cycle. Both channel A and channel B produce two state changes per square wave cycle. The quadrature decoder circuit detects both state changes in each cycle for both channels. It can be seen that two quad A pulses and two quad B pulses result in four pulses being obtained from the encoder for every one square wave cycle.
