As mentioned previously, one the features of the single-chip RTD temperature transmitter TI Design is the highly integrated, low power MSP430F2274 microcontroller. This microcontroller draws only 270 µA in the active mode at 1 MHz. This device has the 10-bit, 200-ksps ADC with internal reference that acts as the front end for this solution. The 4-20 mA modulation of external transistor circuit is established by PWM using a 16-bit timer. The RTD signal conditioning for the bridge circuit is carried out via an integrated op amp. The entire solution, without the sensor element, draws less than 1 mA of system current. All these features provide customers a full turnkey, cost effective solution for RTD temperature transmitter and enables faster time to market due to shorter design cycles. The TIDA-00247 is targeted towards applications such as factory automation, building automation and sensors and field transmitters.
