48 V Resettable eFuse Reference Design

With the arrival of 48 V systems, a new method of safely connecting and disconnecting high current loads to the battery is required. This results in problems associated with arcing, which occurs when using mechanical relays. Therefore, an electronic fuse (eFuse) has been designed to switch loads up to 200 A at 48 V on a compact double-sided FR4 printed circuit board with passive cooling.

FRED Pt® Generation 5 diodes represent the State of the Art Ultrafast and Hyperfast Diode for Resonant Topologies. Having breakdown voltages of 600 V and 1200 V they are designed to deliver the highest efficiency in high frequency switching circuits. Ranging from 8 A up to 75 A, in single and dual-diode configuration, Gen 5 rectifiers offer the best conduction and switching loss trade-off for devices in their class.

XClampR™ TVS

Introducing three new series of 24 V surface-mount XClampR™ transient voltage suppressors (TVS) that offer high peak pulse power dissipation equivalent to the 7 kW of conventional TVS at 10/1000 μs in the SMC (DO-214AB) package and /10 000 μs in the DO-218AB. The bidirectional devices deliver high power density over a wide operating temperature range of -55 °C to +175 °C for automotive applications.

Small Signal Schottky and Switching Diodes in DFN1006-2A Package

Vishay Intertechnology introduces new surface-mount small signal diodes in the ultra compact DFN1006-2A plastic package with wettable flanks. Designed to save space and improve thermal performance in automotive and industrial applications, the 40 V BAS40L Schottky and 100 V BAS16L switching diodes are each available in AEC-Q101 qualified versions.

  • The diodes occupy 90 % less board space than devices in traditional SOD/T packages, while offering a 50 % lower profile and better power dissipation
  • For protection against excessive voltage, such as electrostatic discharges, the BAS40L features a PN junction guard ring

FRED Pt® Gen 7 Ultrafast Rectifiers

The FRED Pt® Generation 7 1200V diode is a new platform developed to be used in auxiliary functions and low power stages of both AC-DC and DC-DC converters. This Generation exhibits great trade-off features in terms of low Reverse Recovery Charge (Qrr) and control on Forward Voltage Drop (Vf) over the full temperature range (175°C). Excellent low Cj parasitic capacitance is achieved without losses on device reliability (surge capability). The platform is currently released with current rating of 1 A into SMA (DO-214AC) package and it will proliferate in more packages in the near future.

IHLE® Inductors

The IHLE® series is an extension of the IHLP product with an integrated E-shield for outstanding radiated EMI mitigation. Designer has the option to layout the PCB for an IHLE inductor and if needed, the IHLE can be populated. If the IHLE is not needed, the standard IHLP can be populated on the PCB at lower cost. The IHLE product is currently available in 6 standard IHLP sizes from IHLE2020 to IHLE5050.

IHDM Inductors

The IHDM1008 power inductor in a 25mm X 21mm X 22mm package takes over where the IHLP leaves off. Using the same powdered iron technology for the core material, the same stable inductance over temperature and low saturation is achieved in the IHDM1008 series. Standard voltage rating is 350V with higher voltage ratings available. These inductors have a continuous operating temperature of 180°C and an inductance range of 1.2 to 10 µH with rated current up to 100A. The standard termination is through hole, but SMD and other configurations such as press fit pins are available.

APPLICATIONS: DC/DC Converters; Inverters; Filters for motor and switching noise suppression in hybrid, full electric, and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles

IHPT Haptic Feedback Actuator

The IHPT1411 power inductor with its solenoid construction provides high impulse vibration for clear tactile feedback in noisy environments. The actuator can provide a haptic fast response time of < 5 ms to produce multiple high definition (HD) haptic effects with a nominal operating voltage of 12 V up to 16 V. Offered in a compact size for rugged automotive environments. Vishay can customize the IHPT1411’s mounting orientation, termination types, and performance to any design’s specification.

IHTH Inductors

Vishay IHTH power inductors are high-current, through-hole, high-temperature parts. These inductors offer the same performance as toroids at half the size. AEC-Q200 IHTH’s are offered in four case sizes. Applications for this inductor include engine and transmission control units, diesel injection drivers, noise suppression for motors, and LED drivers.

PTCEL

Vishay's PTCEL series of thermistors provides safe repetitive inrush current limitation and protection in many high power automotive applications requiring a controlled capacitor charge or discharge function. The PTCEL can significantly reduce board space and component count as they are able to absorb higher energy levels up to 240J for a single part and operate at high ambient temperatures up to 105°C. Additionally, its built-in self-regulating safety mechanism prevents the component from overheating in any overload situation.

NTCLE350

Vishay's enhanced high temperature epoxy coated NTC design takes advantage of low thermally conducting PEEK Insulated NiFe lead wires and a resilient protective coating making it an ideal fit to sustain the requirements that automotive applications demand. NTCLE350 offers highly sensitive, fast reacting and extremely accurate temperature sensing capability with a high temperature rating of 185°C full operation and 85°C/85% relative humidity withstanding capability. It is designed for long term, stable operation in harsh environments. The ability to sustain high temperatures, thermal cycling, shock and vibration is validated through AEC-Q200 qualification.

TFPT

Vishay's TFPT series of linear PTC resistance temperature detectors (RTDs) are designed for automotive applications requiring long-term, stable performance in measurement and compensation functions across a wide temperature range. The tracking accuracy of the TFPT reduces resistance drift in extreme temperature cycling situations and allows designers to obtain precise performance with fewer components. The positive linear temperature characteristic further simplifies circuit designs and provides a more secure “failure” mode behavior.
