MEAN WELL Configurable Power Supplies

We all know that power is an important part of the design process but have probably all encountered scenarios in which it was not thought of until later in the design process, often causing rework and other problems.  Going with fixed outputs reduces cost, but is often hard to adapt to existing designs.

Using a trusted power configuration product can help alleviate this problem, even in the most dire circumstances.  With so many innovative and exciting products on the market these days, it is hard to know where to start to get to the point of “trusted”.

Luckily your friends at DigiKey have some recommendations for you. One of these recommendations is to go with a trusted power supply company like MEAN WELL. They offer power sources that are configurable and have programmable outputs you can use as front-end power supplies to provide DC-DC regulation.

For instance, the NMP650/1K2 Series consists of modular power supplies designed to suit medical and industrial custom power requirements. The series is available in 650 Watt (W) and 1200 W versions, which have four and six slots, respectively, that each support up to 240 W modules. Each module can be chosen to suit the application and are available in 5 Volt (V), 12 V, 24 V, and 48 V outputs.

The NMP family of configurable modular power supplies is certified IEC 60601-1 and provides two times the means of patient protection (2xMOPP). This family is also suitable for type BF classification (touch current <100 µA/264 VAC) applications, making it ideal for medical equipment applications.

In addition to its medical certification, the NMP family also meets the IT industry’s IEC 62368-1 standard.  This makes these power supplies suitable for use in telecommunication equipment along with many other applications.

These high power density modules feature a low earth leakage current of less than 400 µA/264 VAC, efficiencies up to 91%, good electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) immunity, and low EMC emissions.  Additionally, all output modules feature short circuit, overload, over-voltage, and over-temperature protection.

Whether you are at the end of your design process or the beginning, configurable power supplies from MEAN WELL can make the process easier to complete.
