During the Embedded World 2017 in Nuremberg Germany, the makers that brought us the UP Squared and UP board just unveiled the UP Core. It is the smallest Intel Atom x5 single board computer on the market, which measures at 85x56mm.

The UP Core is cross compatible with the already existing UP board OS distributions such as Yocto, Ubuntu, Windows 10 and Android and will be fully supported by the UP community. Moreover, the UP team is currently working on building an open-hardware community based around the UP Core HAT extension. By creating open-hardware carrier boards whilst sharing the scheme, layout, placement and BOM with the open community. The removes some barriers with when designing your own custom hardware, compatible with the UP Core whist increasing time to market. Not only this but innovators who will join in with the development of the UP Core will be able to become a part of any future UP Core KickStarter campaign and also be rewarded for their contributions, having the opportunity to market their products in the UP online store.
