Robust Immu

Maximizing system reliability and quality is important to system designers, and Skyworks Solutions delivers. As safety critical components, isolators must reliably transmit data in the harshest of operating environments. With class-leading ESD (Electrostatic Discharge) tolerance, very high electric and magnetic field immunity and FCC Class B EMI compliance, these isolators can be relied on in the most demanding of environments. Common mode transient immunity (CMTI) is one of the most fundamental performance metrics for an isolator. It is a measure of an isolator’s ability to reject (without causing data transmission errors) fast transient noise signals that may be present between the input ground (or pin) and the output side ground (or pin) of the isolator. Typical optocoupler-based digital isolators are often specified to only ~10 to 20 kV/us, but these Isolation products typically deliver 50 kV/µs CMTI performance. This level of CMTI performance is among the best in class for digital isolators and helps ensure reliable data transmission in noisy operating environments, such as Switch Mode Power Supplies (SMPS), motor controls and industrial automation equipment. The graph shows the Skyworks Solutions digital isolator and a competitive device being subjected to an external RF field on the horizontal axis. The output pin voltage is monitored on the vertical axis. As is indicated on the graph, the competitor part exhibits more susceptibility to the external RF field and even registers an invalid data state (Fail region) at certain frequencies. The Skyworks Solutions isolator, on the other hand, shows virtually no interference under the same exact test conditions.
