In fact, environmental classifications and ratings based on Mechanical, Ingress, Climatic/Chemical, Electromagnetic (M.I.C.E.) attributes provide a method of categorizing. The environmental classes required for each of the industrial areas and are rated as 1 = low, 2 = medium, and 3 = high. The value of each of these elements (Mechanical, Ingress, Climatic, Electromagnetic) is given a rating of 1, being a low concern, to a value of 3 being a high concern. By understanding the environmental requirements properly, the network designer is able to use lower cost enterprise solutions in areas with lower environmental concern (such as M.I.C.E. levels of 1) and more robust connectivity with higher M.I.C.E. levels that require products such as Armored or Dielectric cable need and IP67 type of connections.
