BGM220 Bluetooth™ Modules | First Look
Forecasts call for Bluetooth device shipments to grow from 4 billion units in 2019 to 5.4 billion units in 2023, an increase of 26%. Many of these devices will be small, battery-powered IoT products for applications such as home automation, asset tracking, beacons, and wearables, which will need a compact, ultra-low-power solution that delivers high performance connectivity. Silicon Labs’ BGM220S and BGM220P modules provide developers the right mix of performance, battery life, and features in highly integrated modules that can be used in high volume products. The modules are based on Silicon Labs’ EFR32BG22 Bluetooth 5.2 SoCs, with support for Bluetooth Low Energy, Bluetooth Mesh, and Direction Finding using either Angle of Arrival or Angle of Departure. In addition to the radio subsystem, the SoC features an Arm Cortex M33 with DSP extensions and an FPU. The SoC provides robust security including Secure Boot with Root of Trust and Secure Loader, which implements a full chain of trust process to prevent malicious code from running on your device. This functionality comes with ultra-low power consumption while transmitting and receiving as well as flexible low power modes, delivering battery life up to 10 years on a single coin cell. The BGM220S is a system-in-package module that’s designed as a turnkey Bluetooth solution for the smallest designs. The BGM220P is slightly larger and offers improved wireless performance, providing an increased link budged and longer range communications. Both modules have integrated antennas, up to 25 GPIOs, and a broad selection of peripherals, enabling complete Bluetooth 5.2 designs based on the compact, low-power, and secure modules.
