Selecting Voltage References Slide 15

The voltage reference is only one source of noise in the entire signal chain. The design engineer needs to estimate if the noise performance of the voltage reference is limiting the signal to noise ratio of the whole signal chain. Measure the noise of the signal chain at 0 V of input voltage and increase the voltage until full scale input is reached. It might be a good idea to use actual sensors or input signals to get an idea of the full story. If users see very low noise for 0 V of input and very high noise for full scale input they might want to have a closer look to the voltage reference – it might be the cause for a design’s poor noise performance. It is necessary for customers to consider all sources of noise for this part.
