The reverse conduction voltage has to be considered in two ways. The first is dead time losses. Where energy is lost in each cycle because of high current at reverse conduction voltage. The second involves the reverse conduction voltage adding to bootstrap voltage. Because of the variation in reverse conduction voltage, the bootstrap voltage can swing several volts. This results in either too low of a gate drive voltage where the high side device is not enhanced enough, or too high of a gate drive voltage where the maximum rating is exceeded and operation becomes unreliable.
