The R-78AAxx-SMD series are manufactured without lead and meet the requirements for RoHS 6/6 as well as the increased reflow soldering temperatures associated with vapor phase soldering, making these high efficiency switching regulators ideally suited to modern pick-and-place mass production. Low ripple and noise figures and short circuit input current of typically only 10mA, overload and over temperature protection round off the specifications of this versatile converter series. This R-78B is fully certified to EN 60601-1-2, EN 55022 (Emissions), and EN55024 (Immunity) EMC Standards and for EN-60950-1 Safety. The L-Version with 90° pins allows direct replacement for laid-flat regulators where component height is at a premium.

R-78C Series Switching Regulators

R-78C Series Switching Regulators

RECOM has significantly improved the existing features of the standard R-78 series with a much higher input voltage range of up to 42 VDC and double the output power in the same size case. The R-78C series offers 15 W/cm³ of power. Although the R-78C has the highest efficiency of 96% when the input/output voltage variance is only a few volts, it still can achieve 90% efficiency even with an input voltage of 30 V higher than the output voltage. The R-78C can deliver high efficiency over the entire input voltage range and with a nearly constant efficiency when the load varies between 20% and 100%.

R-78E Switching Regulator Module

The R-78E offers a risk-free, pre-tested solution that makes designing a switching regulator circuit redundant. The R-78E meets all of the most commonly requested specifications yet makes no compromise when it comes to quality and reliability as it is guaranteed with a full 3 year warranty from RECOM.

The input voltage covers the 7 VDC to 28 VDC range, allowing operation from both an industrial 24 V bus or from either a 9 V or 12 V battery. The converter is fully protected against overload, short circuit, and over-temperature conditions. Due to the R-78E’s high efficiency and output voltage, no heatsink is required no heatsink is required for operation over the full industrial temperature range of -40°C to +85°C (+70°C without derating). The compact SIP3 package, TO-220 compatible, measures only 11.6 x 8.5 x 10.4 mm saving precious board space.

R-78S Series

The R-78S is a DC/DC boost converter designed to run from single cell batteries. The input voltage range of 0.65 V-3.15 V means that alkaline, NiCd, NiMH, zinc-carbon or lithium chemistry cells can be used to generate a stable 3.3 V output to power microprocessors, WLAN/Bluetooth modules and IoT systems. The very high efficiency and low standby consumption can be used to extend battery lifetimes until the "last gasp" to get the maximum available energy out of the cell.

R-78T Series Switching Regulators

R-78T Series Switching Regulators

The new R-78T series provides optional regulated 3.3 V, 5 V, or 12 V at 1 A in continuous operation, but can also handle peak currents up to 1.5 A for 10s. Due to their high efficiency of up to 95%, the modules do not require fans or heatsinks. They can operate reliably at temperatures between -40°C and +85°C without derating. With a wide input voltage range of 7 V to 42 V and no heatsinks, these modules are a space-saving solution for portable or battery-operated applications.

The modules measure only 23 x 27.2 x 10 mm or 23 x 29.4 x 8 mm. They are packaged for fully automatic assembly with "tape & reel" or "tray" options, and are designed for the reflow soldering process. The warranty period is 3 years.

R-78 Evaluation Boards

R-78S3.3-0.1-EVM-1

The R-78S3.3-0.1-EVM-1 Evaluation Module generates 3.3V from a single AA battery or from an external source. By using the external input source, any voltage source (other types of batteries, energy harvesters, etc.) in the range from 0.65V to 3.15V can be used. The evaluation module contains a AA battery holder, power switch, R-78S3.3-0.1 boost converter and a micro-USB connector. Jumper headers are provided to allow various test measurements to be made. An enable pin puts the R-78S into sleep mode where it draws only 7uA from the battery.
