Automotive - A small part from SiTime runs a big part of your world

Soon, every car will have its own supercomputer, and since the clock is the heartbeat of electronics, every car will need upwards of 70 timing devices. While cars today depend on timing devices for things like GPS and backup cameras, self-driving cars will require even more accurate timing. They will have to keep time to one billionth of a second!

If timing fails…

  • Your car may fail to detect other cars while changing lanes
  • You could have a flat tire and not be notified
  • Your navigation system would be lost

Only our MEMS timing solutions provide the robustness, reliability, and performance needed for operating the vehicles of today, tomorrow, and the future.

SiT8924B Automotive Grade Oscillators

SiT8924B

The SiT8924B series from SiTime Corporation offer highly reliable and high quality AEC-Q100 compliant oscillators for automotive and extreme temperature applications. This device provides a perfect combination of a wide frequency range (1 MHz to 110 MHz), excellent stability (as low as ±20 PPM), and a wide temperature range (-55°C to +125°C) in one of the smallest (2.0 mm x 1.6 mm) packages that is not readily available from quartz. It also features one of the industry's best shock and vibration resistances.

The SiT8924 is available in five industry standard packages, and therefore replaces quartz products without any design changes. SiTime's MEMS oscillator consists of a MEMS resonator and a programmable analog circuit. The SiT8924 MEMS oscillator is built with SiTime’s unique MEMS First™ process. A key manufacturing step is EpiSeal™ during which the MEMS resonator is annealed with temperatures over +1000°C. EpiSeal creates an extremely strong, clean vacuum chamber that encapsulates the MEMS resonator and ensures the best performance and reliability in harsh environments.

SIT2024B MEMS Oscillators

SIT2024B

SiTime Corporation's SiT2024B series are reliable and high quality AEC-Q100 compliant SOT-23 oscillators for automotive and extreme temperature applications. These devices deliver a combination of wide frequency range (1 MHz to 110 MHz), excellent stability (±20 ppm), and extreme temperature range (-55°C to +125°C). They also feature 0.1 ppb/g vibration sensitivity, 50,000 g shock, and 70 g vibration resistance. The small SOT23-5 package offers board-level solder joint reliability and easy, low-cost optical-only, board-level inspection of solder joints.

The SiT2024 includes a programmable drive strength feature to provide a simple, flexible tool to optimize the clock rise/fall time for specific applications. Benefits from the programmable drive strength feature include improved system radiated electromagnetic interference (EMI) by slowing down the clock rise/fall time, improved downstream clock receiver’s (RX) jitter by decreasing (speeding up) the clock rise/fall time, and the ability to drive large capacitive loads while maintaining full swing with sharp edge rates. The high-performance features of the SIT2024 series products make them suitable for automotive infotainment systems, collision detection system, powertrain, and in-vehicle networking applications.

SIT9025 AEC-Q100-Compliant MEMS Oscillators

SIT9025

The SiT9025 from SiTime Corporation is one of the industry's first AEC-Q100-compliant, automotive-grade spread spectrum oscillators. This device solves EMI problems by offering two techniques for emissions compliance: spread spectrum clocking and rise/fall time adjustment of the clock signal. The SiT9025 comes in three industry-standard packages and is supported by SiTime's Time Machine II programmer that allows engineers to replace quartz products without any design changes, and instantly program spread modulation and/or drive strength to quickly reduce emissions levels. This combination enables customers to accelerate time to revenue by ensuring emissions compliance with minimum engineering effort.

The increasing number of high-performance infotainment and wireless systems deployed in today's connected automobiles requires designers to pay special attention to electromagnetic energy present at frequencies to which these systems are sensitive. Electromagnetic interference (EMI) can be problematic in AI server/ECUs or ADAS camera modules that depend on the transfer of high volumes of data at high speeds. The clock can be the largest contributor of noise and often this EMI is not observed until the final stages of qualification. This can cause rework late in the design cycle, incurring unplanned delays and costs. SiT9025 MEMS oscillators are ideal for automotive ADAS camera and ADAS ECU applications.
